K Series: Constant Fill Fluid Couplings
Hydraulic Coupling - Turbo Coupling
TRANSFLUID Constant Fill Fluid Coupling
A Proven Hydrokinetic Power Transmission Solution.
The TRANSFLUID constant fill fluid coupling is a hydrokinetic transmission, soft-start, system designed to provide smooth and efficient power transfer in a wide range of industrial applications.
At the heart of its operation are two imellers functioning as a centrifugal pump and a hydraulic turbine. When the input drive (such as an electric motor or diesel engine) powers the pump, kinetic energy is transferred to the coupling fluid. The fluid, driven outward by centrifugal force, flows across the turbine blades, creating torque that rotates the output shaft.
Since there is no mechanical connection between input and output, wear is virtually eliminated, resulting in longer service life and minimal maintenance. The system’s efficiency is affected only by the slip, the difference in speed between the pump and turbine, which is essential for torque transmission.
Performance Characteristics
As with all centrifugal machines, the fluid coupling follows these fundamental laws:
- Torque = (Input Speed)2
- Power = (Input Speed)3
- Power ∝ (Outside Diameter of Circuit)5
Advantages
- Soft-Start: Reduces mechanical stress on motors and driven equipment, enhancing system longevity
- Shock Load Protection: Cushioning the drivetrain from shock loads and torsional vibrations, it protects motors, gearboxes, and driven equipment
- Overload Protection: Automatically slips under overload, protecting both the prime mover and driven machinery
- Fuse Plug: Provides a predictable failure point, inexpensive, and easy to change
